In a catalog full of instruments that measure, document and certify, there is this one: a handheld magnifying glass with 1.6x magnification. Why low magnification and a large lens go together
Magnification and field of view always pull in opposite directions. The more something is magnified, the less of it fits in the image — this is true from a simple magnifier all the way up to a microscope at 900x, where the field of view has shrunk to less than a grain of salt.
At 1.6x the opposite is true: almost nothing is magnified away. A 60 millimeter lens shows a whole page of text, an entire component or a complete section of a map at once, with room to spare around it.
